Class Surevey Conclusions

The groups choice of films were; Harry Potter And The Dealthy Hallows Part 2, Planet of the Apes, The Inbetweeners, The Smurfs and Fast and furious 5. All of these films country of origin are America apart from The Inbetweeners which is England, and Harry Potter And The Dealthy Hallows Part 2 which is an American/English film. The statistics we discussed were around 5 American films watched to every 1 British film. Also, the 6 main film distributors are based in America - 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Paramount, Columbia, Universal and Walt Disney Studio. Planet of the Apes and Fast and Furious 5 are both action films joined with Harry Potter And The Dealthy Hallows Part 2 which is also action and fantasy. These films are all American which would mean they have a bigger budget to create a bigger and more explosive film which is good for action films.

The Inbetweeners is a comedy film which has origin of England. The film was made from the UK TV series, The Inbetweeners so therefore more reasonably to keep within the UK. Also not being an action packed, high technology film - wouldn’t need to be in origin of America. The Smurfs is an animated comedy drama which has origin of America this would mean for the animation they would be able to use high technology for the animation.  Films such as Harry Potter And The Deathly Halllows Part 2 and The Smurfs could be seen in 3D at the Cinema as well as 2D. This gives a wider viewing range at the cinema to have a better experience. Pros of viewing a film at the cinema are seeing the film on a bigger screen with much higher quality. Also the surround sound that comes with experience which makes the film alot more memorable than if it was watched at home on a standard TV. The atmosphere or tension and excitement to see a film also makes it more memorable as it adds to the viewing experience. Also seeing it with friends means you can share the experience and is better than watching it alone. Cons of going to the cinema are viewing difficulties from others. If someone’s in the way of your view it can ruin the experience - also if at a busy screening, the noise from others can be distracting and irritable which wouldn’t be as good as if you were watching it alone.

If you were to download a film the pros are not having to pay to see it - you have easy access to watch it. Cons are that the download could actually be illegal. Plus being a download the quality would properly not be half as good as going to see the real thing, or buying the DVD. Pros of DVD are you can also have easy access to it like a download but it has much better quality and is legal. Also with a DVD you can get bonus features which would mean if you really do have a interest in the film then you can see alot more to it. Viewing it at home on a DVD with home cinema equipment would be like going to the cinema but in the comfort of your own home. Cons are if you aren’t fortunate enough to have a good quality system, then again, the quality may be bad. Another way to view a film is if its featured on TV. Cons are, its free and enjoyable for a family to sit and watch together but cons are the breaks that interrupt the film.
We discussed different ways of marketing are Posters, trailers, TV advertisement and previews. I think that the most effective way of marketing is TV advertisement. This is because if you pick a popular show to have an advertisement in the break then the range of different people that will see it will be effective meaning that the of the advert being publicised will be successful.
